Thinking about the diversity of our culture, and inviting jazz musicians and classical musicians and poetry readings in the White House so
that, once again, we appreciate this incredible tapestry that's America.
                                                                         ~ President-elect Barack Obama
Meet the Press, December 6, 2008Dear Carl:

for each Assembly and state Senate district, the Obama Arts Platform and a CD with electronic files that include:  State arts economic
impact and recovery documents, national and local economic impact reports, current media coverage and legislative history.

California Arts Advocates Take Action Center about how the arts impact your community
and quality of life.

Traditionally, the governor's State of the State address is the first week of January.  It is widely believed that the Governor postponed his
speech until this week because of ongoing budget negotiations.  The Big 5, Governor Schwarzenegger, Assembly Speaker Bass,
Assembly Minority Leader Mike Villines, Senator Steinberg, President pro Tem and Senator Cogdill, Senate Minority Leader are meeting
this week to work out a budget deal that would address the predicted $40 billion deficit.  Although no agreement has been met, both
Democratic and Republican leaders called Monday's talks productive.

4. The Presidential Inauguration is Tuesday, January 20.
The inauguration ceremony of Barack Hussein Obama will begin at 7am Pacific time on Tuesday, January 20.  Musical selections by the
US Marine Band will be followed by the San Francisco Boys Chorus and the San Francisco Girls Chorus.  California Senator Dianne
Feinstein, chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inauguration Ceremonies, will give the call to order and make opening remarks.

6. Strengthen the voice of the arts on three levels:  Statewide, locally and nationally.
When you support the arts locally, statewide and nationally, the arts message grows stronger.  When you forward CAA legislative updates
and action alerts to your colleagues, board members and friends, you build public awareness for essential grassroots arts advocacy
efforts.  Please join
California Arts Advocates, become a member of the Americans for the Arts Action Fund and support our local
partners so all of us can work together to gain a greater public investment in the arts and make arts available for everyone, everywhere.

Thank you to our members who make our advocacy work possible at the local, state and national level.
