The soldier pushed the head in sand, Of the man with violin, Who crossed the fingers of his hand, As he spluttered- "I give in," - The soldier loosened his grip to stand, His lecture did begin, On violinists crown his blows did land, Grunting- "You belong to the King," - The violinist struggled to withstand, Then he did give in, The spark in both his eyes went bland, And his playing wrist went limp, - Soldier about turned from the dead man, Searching for his violin, 'Till, playing, in thin air it did hang, And a ghostly voice did sing-, - "As my body lays on the Kings land," "He may have my skin," "As for all of me, tell him- understand," "He may as well kiss the wind" Copyright Fraser Kee Scott '09 |
