| The redwood paint peels off our sea shanty like a sunburn. Our house is as old as the wind— first home to get running water in Laguna Beach. They say a baby was born here near the back corner while his Mama looked out on an open canyon as if through a window in Mother Nature’s womb. And Eilar Larson, the old Laguna Greeter, once filled up the single-roomed dwelling with his aged and mellowed-out vibrations. Now a white dove makes love to the surrounding land and an olive tree grows. Of course, you know the rest. Though they say we speakers of English have no common symbols. Didn’t Jesus live among the olive trees? And do I need to say I think my house is blessed? |
