- I am a child at one with the universe
I care not what you do to me
for I am forever
You cannon contain a song
a poem, a spirit
with your bars
with your fears
with your threats of reprisal for my reaching and touching.
I will be here
Singing, writing my poems
when your bars are rust
when your fears are laughter
and when your threats are but faraway echoes
vague shreds of something barely remembered
And my song will still ring among the stars.
McAndrews Award. Odd how these things happen. While sitting at a meeting of Artists In Action a couple of months ago, the
subject of this contest came up and was being discussed by Stazja MacFaydden, and as she was talking I thought of what the
real basic idea of Human Rights was about, and tried to cut to the bottom line and scribbled out a poem and read it to the group. I
had forgotten about it when Stazja asked if I had an entry some time later. I typed it out and gave her a copy. I am glad I did.
