Don't Miss the "Broke Ass Musician" Special!!
That goes for you "Broke Ass" Blues Fans Too!

Congratulations to Jeff Ackerman and Wendell Stroup for taking advantage of our current Membership Discount! They both signed up as Lifetime
Members of the Society at the Jam last Sunday!!

We all know how bad the economy is right now but our life and love of good music goes on.  Our Blues Society dues have not changed since 2003 and
we still have the lowest of all the Blues Societies we know.  We have finally decided to raise our membership dues on July 1st, 2009.

Now's your chance to renew your dues for one or more years or join the Blues Society for the first time for the current very low price of:

Student:  $10/year
Individual:  $15/year
Family:  $25/year
Senior:  $10/year
Lifetime:  10 x Regular Rate

There are many advantages to being a Society member - it is a tax deduction, you get discount rates on many items and shows and it helps fund more
events so you have great music and fun!!

The discounts are all listed on our website at
www.scvblues.org - they include 25% off Friday Night Blues Cruise Tickets for up to 6 people, discounted
Blues Shows sponsored by our big Sister, Santa Barbara Blues Society for up to 4 people and discounted Blues Shows at The Canyon Club.

If you have a Band and all members of the Band join the Society, you will be listed on our websites and we will include your gigs in our Blues News
weekly mailing.  If you would like to host one of our monthly Jams, you will be featured in the Blues Spotlight on our websites for a month.

If you are planning to enter our Battle of the Blues Bands later this year for your chance to be chosen to compete in the 2010 International Blues
Challenge in Memphis, this is a great chance to save money on signing your whole band up for Membership so you can compete.

There are membership forms on the main Society website - just fill one out and mail it to the address printed on the form along with a check.  We will
send you a Membership card so you can  start receiving your discounts.

Join or Donate to SCV Blues Society's Relay Team!!

The Blues Society is a Bronze Sponsor of the SCV Relay 4 Life again this year.  We have a Relay Team which this year will be headed up by our new
Captain - Christine Gillespie. We have plans for several fundraisers this year to raise money for the American Cancer Society to aid with Cancer
Research.  Each one of you has probably been touched by Cancer at some point in your life and here's your chance to help make a difference.

The Relay 4 Life is a very important opportunity that we should all get involved in to help change the world.  Last year, our Team was #12 out of 109
and we raised $11,599.00 in donations.  Also many of our bands participated last year by playing at the Relay and some are involved again this year.
Please go one step further and sign up for our SCV Blues Society Relay Team to help us raise money to find a cure for Cancer.  We can continue to
have Fundraisers for the Relay For Life that will count toward our Team until August 30th.  If you want to host a Fundraiser, let us know and it will be
advertised on the Relay website which will draw more people, put out a tip bucket at your gigs or a donation jar at your office to help us raise money for
Cancer Research.  Also,  invite your friends and family to come to the Relay this year - Saturday, May 30th - It's Free and Fun with 13 hours of Non
Stop Music!!

We need some volunteers to walk around the Relay Track for our Society Team during the 24 hour period from 9:30am, Sat. May 30th thru 9:30am,
Sun. May 31st.  We'd love for everyone to be there for our Team Photo during the Team Lap at 9:30 on Saturday morning.  Signing up to walk the
track is not only good exercise and a great way to loose that beer gut and extra pounds but it's also very simple - just contact our Team Captain -
Christine Gillespie to sign up for your choice of time on the schedule.  Our goal is to have at least one person on the track at all times during the entire
24 hour event.  You can even bring your sleeping bag and small tent and spend the night with us at the park - there's all sorts of entertainment all night
- contests, story telling, acoustic jams, etc.  Sorry, no pets are allowed in this area of the Park due to a City ordinance.

Here's how to signup as a SCV Blues Society Relay Team Member:

Go to http://www.scvrelay.com/2009/Teams/TeamSCVBS.htm  On the left side of the page, click on "Join or Donate to our Team".  That will take you to
the American Cancer Society web page for the SCV Blues Society Team. Then Click on "Join Our Team" and fill out the information.  You don't have to
pay anything to join - just follow the instructions to register as a team member.  You only have to answer the questions with an * beside them.  Then set
up your personal webpage, if you want. You can add a photo and your own personal message and then email the link out to friends, family and
contacts to start getting Tax Deductible Donations for our Team.

Here's how to make a Tax Deductible Donation Online:

Go to http://www.scvrelay.com/2009/Teams/TeamSCVBS.htm   On the left side of the page, click on "Join or Donate to our Team".  That will take you to
the American Cancer Society web page for the SCV Blues Society Team. Then click on "Donate" and fill out the information.  The American Cancer
Society will send you a letter thanking you for your Tax Deductible Donation and your donation will appear both on the ASC website Team and our SCV
Relay for Life Team page.

Note: Only Credit Card donations made on the ASC website appear there, al the Cash and Check donations appear on the SCV Relay site but never
show up on the ASC website....Not to worry, all the money does go to the Cancer Society, the websites are maintained by different entities and
connected only by a link - Most Relays don't have their own Website but our SCV Relay is the 10th largest in the United States and has 137 teams this
year.

Here's how to Light a Relay Luminaria Candle for a Loved One:

Go to http://www.scvrelay.com/2009/Teams/TeamSCVBS.htm   You can also choose to buy a Luminaria Bag to honor that Special Person in your life
who has died from Cancer.  The bags will be decorated and placed around the SCV Relay Track just before the Candlelight Luminaria Ceremony and
will stay lit for the rest of the evening.

Remember, every little bit helps the Society reach their goal in making a difference in the fight against Cancer. Together, we can make a difference.
For more information on all the above, contact:
Lynn Parker, SCVBS President & SCV Relay For Life Chair
