Who is Running YOUR Life?
I want to comment on something that is important to all of us.
Who is running your life?
There could be many answers: The government, the economy, your spouse,
the law, your creditors, your Boss.
All of these could be the answer but these are not basic enough.
This morning, when you got out of bed, who decided to make your body get up?
It wasn’t the government though I believe they are planning on installing traffic cameras to ensure you do not get enough sleep. It will be a
“non-moving” violation if you fail to start in time!
It wasn’t the economy unless the creditor had a gun and said “Give me all your money” but then that would have been a home invasion
sponsored by the local police station.
It wasn’t your spouse. If they were successful, there wouldn’t be any sleep to wake from; you’d have been up all night worrying.
Now your bOSS, it’s spelled that way because the head is much smaller than normal on most bOSS”, it could be the bOSS. bOSS’ try to
run your life but never succeed, too much competition from your spouse and the government!
No! The truth is YOU decided to get up. You made a decision to get up because nature wasn’t to be ignored any longer or because you
knew going to work was better than not.
YOU made the decision.
But so many times, you don’t make the decision. For example you needed to study but you are tired. Or this morning you had planned to
go the gym and work out or run and you are tired. So the body and TV wins.
So, the tired you listens to the tired body and YOU get weaker.
But I can guarantee you that if someone started shooting at you or the house caught fire, YOU would not be too tired to move and move
very fast!
Last night, I ran into this. I was studying and “I was tired.”
But the body was ready to go. The muscles were strong and the stairs were easy to climb two by two.
As a person, I was not tired. I was interested in my studies and I wasn’t tired. I was alert.
But the tiredness kept making me go almost unconscious. I looked to see if the words were clear and if I understood. I did. But yet the
tiredness! I decided to figure this out.
So I took some rocks and some pieces of wood and put a pile of rocks to represent the body. I took a piece of wood and placed it near
the rocks to represent me.
Then I placed a bunch of pieces of wood and rock to represent the “tiredness.”
You see, the tiredness was neither me nor the body, it was something else. When I looked at this, I DECIDED that I was in charge and
didn’t have to let something else make me “feel tired.”
Needless to say, I wasn’t tired anymore. The body wasn’t tired and there was no tiredness about.
The spotting of the “tiredness,” as something other than me, was a very nice win.
So the answer to the question “Who is running your life” should always be YOU. If anyone or anything else is calling the shots, telling you
what to do, take a good look at it and do the opposite of what it says.
For example, there’s the elevator and there’s the stairs. My body is lazy and likes to ride.
I know the body needs to be exercised, used, so I make it walk up and down stairs.
I go to the coffee shop daily because I like coffee. I pass the pastries. My body likes pastries but rarely do I purchase one. I know it’s not
good for the body so I make the decision.
Another example is someone is doing something at a distance to you and isn’t directly affecting you but you don’t like it and you get
angry. This is an example of something in the environment making a decision for you. Now “you are angry.” Who decided that?
After working for 11 years at a school behind a desk, I decided I needed to push it or lose it. I went into construction for 2.5 years. I lost
weight and got stronger. I was keeping up with the 20 year olds and pushing them.
Life is grand when I run it. When the environment, stop signs, speed bumps, tiredness, insane laws run the environment, we all have a
hard time.
Each one of us needs to take charge of our lives and make our decisions to be cause over our bodies and the environment.
